The 'shambling mound spell is an upgrade of the 'earth wall' spell,
creating an animated pile of dirt, rocks, earth, and other material
to defend you in battle.  The mound requires substantial magic to
create and maintain, and must be periodically reinforced with new
material from the earth.

Shambling mounds are typically short term creations, used in short
battles as protection.
