Your 'link' is your connection to the mud.  When that connection is broken,
for whatever reason, it's called "losing your link".  A character that has
been disconnected is called "linkdead", because even though the character
is logged on, the person controlling it is no longer connected.

Being killed while linkdead is called 'linkdeath'.  There are safeguards to
prevent this from happening, but linkdeath does happen occasionally.  There
are no reimbursements for linkdeath.
