(THIS HELP PAGE IS OBSOLETE AND PRESERVED FOR HISTORICAL PURPOSES ONLY)
There is a form of a karma system used to prevent excessive pkilling. Each
pkill will increase your notoriety/karma - and you get a LOT more karma for
killing players much lower level than you are. A level 30 who attacks and
kills a level 10 character will get a LOT of karma. You might only be able
to do it once.
As your karma/notoriety increases, bad things start to happen to you. In
roughly increasing order:
Shopkeepers will raise their prices for you.
Guildmasters refuse to teach you.
Trainers refuse to train you.
Shopkeepers refuse to deal with you.
Guarding mobs will be aggressively on the lookout for you.
The gods refuse to acknowledge your existence (no recall!)
Hunter-killers and bounty hunters will be looking for you (no safe rooms!)
Open season on you (anyone can kill you anywhere!)
There is only one way for karma to wear off, and that is through brute
force time. This will ensure that playerkilling does not get utterly out of
hand, and should provide very little room for abuse - assuming, of course,
that the detriments above are significant enough.
Remember, that this permanent pk was not intended to be used in an all out
nuking spree of every perm pk on the mud - it was intended to give that
freedom of action to those who may possibly want it.
