Mages skilled at brewing potions can extend their alchemical skills to
developing treatments for physical objects. While somewhat weaker than
enchantments, these brews lack the enormous cost of mana, gold and
other resources.
Leather is the most suitable material for taking up such treatments, as
it is pliable and absorbent. 'Harden leather' adds hitpoints to
leather objects, while 'seal leather' adds saving poison. While
anyone can apply these treatments, mages adept at the leathercrafting
skill will generally be more effective at coaxing out the full potential
on an item.
The 'endure elements' brew will coat most material objects with a layer
of protective residue that is resistant to elemental damage. The effects
are not particularly strong, but it can be useful for fortifying existing
fire, cold or lightning resistance already present on an item.
The effectiveness of these brews is strongly dependent not just on
their level, but how much higher level they are than the object they
are used upon.
Objects can only receive one such treatment, and the change is
permanent. An item cannot be treated again even if the effects are
removed by potent abilities such as the necromancer 'disenchant' skill.
