Certain types of objects are temporary and do not save. This means that
if you log off holding the item, or if you put it in a storage locker, it
will be gone when you return.
Nosave items also are destroyed by a reboot. There is no way whatsoever
to keep a nosave item across a reboot - if the item is in a shop or
donation room, it will be gone after the reboot occurs.
Items that do not save are:
Item type KEY - keys never save, and many of them also have timers.
Items flagged NOSAVE - these obviously do not save.
