These heads can be mounted to woodcrafted handles to create spears, pikes, axes, maces, hammers and flails of varying sizes. Tools such as chains, crowbars, shovels and mattocks can also be created using this skill. The 'forge blade' skill allows metal ingots to be forged into blades for weapons such as daggers, dirks, swords and heads for various polearms. The skill also includes knowledge of how to work with several new alloys of rare metals such as ziff and orichalcum. You can assemble weapons, bladed or simple, with the 'forge assemble' command. Type 'forge assembled <weapon name> <weapon parts>'. You must have all the parts you need in your inventory. Weapons such as flails and dire flails require a forged chain to complete. Many bladed weapons require a guard in addition to a blade and handle. Guards will add to a weapon's parry if they are made from a high ac metal, with cup and basket guards giving the most. Finished simple weapons can have their weight and damage increased with 'forge enhance load'. Finished bladed weapons can be made more damaging damaging with 'forge enhance fuller'. If you know forge simple weapon, you can use 'forge enhance balance' to increase the speed of weapons. If you know forge blade, you can use forge enhance hone' to increase the hitroll of weapons. Balancing a weapon increases its speed. There is a hard limit to how fast weapons can be, thus you may be able to enhance a weapon further even after you reached its max speed. You do not need to be at a forge to assemble a weapon, but you do need a forge to enhance a weapon. The level and dieroll of assembled weapons is dependent on your level, the level and type of the weapon head or blade and how well you know the requisite skills. More difficult to work metals such as high grade steels and adamantium alloys will tend to have higher dierolls as well. Forged weapons have the widest range of speeds and damage types of all crafted weapons. Given the traits of various metals and woods that can be combined, there is a vast range of customization. They can also be enchanted, honed, balanced, inlaid with metal, and ones with guards can have gemstones mounted to them for even more options. You can see what kinds of weapons you know how to make with the 'forge assemble list weapon' command. Weapon parts can be seen with 'forge list type parts'. The weight listed is the minimum weight needed - weapon heads and blades can weigh more if you use heavier ingots when forging them. Only certain metals and alloys can be made into weapon heads or blades. You cannot make a gold-headed axe or a lead sword. Pure mithril and some of its softer alloys are poorly suited for making simple weapons such as axes or maces, and can only be made into blades. Also, more difficult to work with metals can yield higher dierolls, for example adamantine weapons will typically have a higher dieroll than steel or bronze. High strength will help you forge weapons from harder metals more easily, while higher constitution will reduce the amount of movement required. A high intelligence is also helpful, especially when working with more difficult metals such as high-grade steels, mithril or adamantine.
