Items on the game normally are created with a fixed, known set of stats
and effects.  However, sometimes an item can load or be created with
different stats than it would normally have.  These items are called
'randoms', or 'unique items'.  Any piece of equipment can random, except
low level (less than level 3) binding equipment.

When you first pick up a random or unique item you will get a message saying:

"You sense something different about this object..."

This send notifies you that the piece of equipment you have picked up
does not have normal loading stats. Random equipment can either be very
different or very similar to normal loading stats, and can be better or
worse than the normal version of the item.
