Weapons, armor and other equipment can be improved in several different ways.

The damage of weapons can be improved with with the customize weapon skill.
If know forge simple weapon, you can increase the speed of weapons. If you
know forge blade, you can increase their hitroll. Elemental damage types can
be added with enchant fire, enchant ice and enchant lightning. Some smiths offer
weapon damage improvement services for a cost.

Weapons and ammunition can be temporarily improved by certain spells and skills.
The cleric spell 'mystic armanent' adds magic damage to blunt weapons and ammo,
while the mage spell 'flame blade' adds fire damage to bladed weapons. Thieves
can learn skill to temporarily add poison damage to weapons as well.

Armor can be improved by the warrior skill 'reinforce armor', and it can be
temporarily enhanced by the cleric skill 'consecrate armor'. The brewable
spells 'harden leather' and 'seal leather' can add stats to leather armor.
Tailoring allows you to add minor stats to fabric items. There are numerous
enchantment skills that add a wide variety of effects to armor and weapons as
well.
