While small islands may be found near any major coastline, occasionally
islands may be found in the middle of large bodies of water.  Three of
the most famous islands of this type are the islands of Sloe, Kordan,
and Archais, sometimes collectively referred to as the Westering
Isles.

All three islands have been determined to be west of the Alter Aeon
mainland, but they have never been found by any boat or expedition.
Only by magical means has their location been discovered, and only by
magical means are they accessible.

The island Sloe is farthest west, and is suitable for levels 0-13.
The island Kordan lies east of Sloe, and is suitable for levels 10-20.
The island Archais lies east of Kordan and is closest to the mainland.
It is suitable for levels 20-29, including some areas that increase
in difficulty with level.

All three islands are linked by an ancient magical portal system.  The
portals do not appear to be of mortal manufacture, and the creators are
unknown.

After the discovery of the islands by Gad Addlebrook, other magical
portals were opened to allow access from several different points on
the mainland.
