Hitpoints, also commonly abbreviated 'hp', are a measure of how alive or dead
your character is.  All players have a limited number of hitpoints which
indicate how much damage they can suffer in combat before being incapacitated.

You can check your hitpoints with the 'hp' command, or with the 'score'
command.  You can gain hitpoints by raising your constitution, or by gaining
levels.  Warriors and thieves usually have more hitpoints than mages or
clerics.
