Currently, in the course of the game, it is assumed that you find enough food
and drink to keep your character alive and happy.  This means that during
normal game play, you will probably not become hungry or thirsty.

However, there are certain malign magics, usually high level curses, that
make eating and drinking much more necessary.  Under these conditions, it
becomes necessary for your character to purchase, find, or create enough
food and drink to survive.  Should you be unable to keep up with the constant
craving, your character will weaken, wither, and die.
