Getting and keeping alignment can be very difficult.  Here are some tips
and hints that may help out.

- Make sure your alignment goal is set.  If it's not, nothing will happen.

- Wearing equipment with the ALIGNMENT effect can help.

- A handful of high level quests have alignment as part of the quest
  reward.  These can be used to help you get to your desired alignment
  if you're not there yet.

- Wearing ANTI_EVIL equipment will slowly consume your good alignment.

- Wearing ANTI_GOOD equipment will slowly consume your evil alignment.

- When you're grouped with other players, you will gain and lose
  alignment from mobs much more slowly.

- You can get alignment from killing monsters, but you'll get much less
  for easy creatures than you will from difficult ones.  A good rule of
  thumb is that if you don't get at least half an exp cap from the mob,
  you won't get alignment from it.

- Read the help page on the alignment offsets and try to understand how
  they work.  When they are high, it will be much harder to get and
  maintain alignment than when they are low.  You can see the good and
  evil difficulty by looking at graphs 2 and 3.

- Because of the offsets, not everyone can be good, and not everyone can
  be evil.  An effective way to get and keep alignment is to convince
  others to be neutral, so that the alignment difficulty stays low.
