Alter Aeon Rules of Conduct

Rules Section 1 - Newbie Areas

Rule 1.1 - Introduction Newbie areas have special rules, primarily to keep high level players from interfering with newbie quests and learning. Players often think it's fun or funny to go into a new player zone and mess around, usually because newbie mobs can't hurt a high level player. However, new players are often easily confused, and often simply quit the game based on what they perceive as an incomplete or half built game. The most general newbie area rule is "don't be in a newbie area unless you're a newbie". More specifically, anything that interferes with teaching and training new players will be harshly dealt with. Newbies are the lifeblood of any game, and without them Alter Aeon would die. The lower the level of the area, the more these rules apply. The entirety of the Island of Sloe should be considered covered by these rules.
Rule 1.2 - Thou shalt not kill newbie trainers, shopkeepers, or quest mobs Getting a new player to wear equipment is hard enough, so when they actually want to go learn a spell or complete a quest and can't, it's a big problem. Most newbie teachers and quest mobs will be unkillable, but for the ones that are killable, leave them alone. Exception - you may kill fame mobs, but only once to get the fame.
Rule 1.3 - Thou shalt not screw with mobs in newbie zones This includes moving mobs, imprisoning mobs, bringing in mobs from other areas, slaughtering low level exp mobs just because you can, and any other interference that might confuse new players. A good example of this would be to repeatedly clear out every mob in the stony field, causing new players to wonder if they're in the right place and depriving them of the experience they will need for the graveyard. The safest course of action as a high level player is simply not to go to newbie areas. Exception - you may kill fame mobs, but only once to get the fame.
Rule 1.4 - Thou shalt not screw with items in newbie zones This includes moving equipment, taking keys or quest items, spamming donation rooms and shopkeepers with crap equipment, etc. The definition on this is pretty weak, which means your safest course of action as a high level player is simply not to go to newbie areas.
Rule 1.5 - Thou shalt not screw with newbies in general If a newbie somehow gets your attention, either be polite, or ignore them. Mistreating new players is a good way to drive them off, and high level players who do so consistently will be "politely" asked to find a different mud to play. As your mother said, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all."
