Alter Aeon Rules of Conduct

Rules Section 15 - Penalties, Clarifications, and Other Information

Rule 15.1 - Introduction This section contains information regarding obscure situations or situations which do not fall into the previous categories.
Rule 15.2 - You are responsible, not your character If you break rules, punishment is not limited to the character that was directly involved. You are responsible for all the characters under your control, whether in an account or not. Breaking the rules on any one of your characters could result in your entire account being locked. Example: If you create a throwaway newbie character and use it to spam channels, every single character in your entire account may be locked or frozen, and/or you may be sitebanned. Example: If you use a mid-level character to illegally pk someone, every single character in your entire account may be locked or frozen, and/or you may be sitebanned. You are responsible for the actions of your characters. When you use a character to do something illegal or dumb, the penalty falls on you, not just the character you used.
Rule 15.3 - Informational - penalties Standard penalties for breaking rules are: Channel Ban - Your ability to use a particular channel is removed. Spam Flagging - Ability to see/talk with other players restricted. Asshole Flag - Ability to see/talk with other players severely restricted. Silence - Other players can no longer hear anything you say. Freezing - Your character is not allowed to do anything at all. Archiving - A single character is locked and not allowed to log in. Account Lock - None of your characters can be logged in. Siteban - The game will reject connections from your IP address. These are somewhat in order of increasing harshness. In general we try to choose penalties that fit the crime or make the most sense in context. Special penalties for special cases: Disconnect - You are disconnected, without logging off your character. Booting - You are forced to recall and quit. Eq Purge - Some or all or your equipment is destroyed. Deletion - Your characters, and all your stuff, disappears. Forever. - Disconnect and boot are primarily used to deal with buggy clients or bots that may be causing problems. They're rarely used as an actual penalty for wrongdoing, simply because it doesn't make sense for most things. - Equipment purging usually only happens if equipment has been duplicated, which can occasionally happen during crashes. It can also happen when there's a bug which allows construction of broken equipment. - Deletion is extremely rare, because it's easier to just permanently lock the character and account.
Rule 15.4 - Informational - bug/exploit reporting Bugs happen. Exploits happen. The administration recognize and understand that simple fact. There is much tolerance and even respect for players who find problems and exploits, assuming one simple condition is met: Bugs and exploits must be reported in a timely manner. In general, the more serious an exploit is, the more quickly it should be reported. A minor exploit that is reported a week after discovery might garner a pat on the back and favor in the eyes of the gods. A critical exploit that is not reported for a day may result in freezing or thwacking of the non-reporting player. Below are some examples of exploits and their severity: Minor - find a way to make a container with negative weight Serious - brew a potion that has infinite castings of cure light Serious - you find a way to get 20 mil exp an hour sitting in your clan area Major - brew a potion that has infinite castings of sanc and heal Critical - you find a way to make 200 mil exp an hour Critical - find a way to pick up Hephestus and drop him anywhere you want Critical - you discover an easy way to make copies of any item you can carry Remember, the only way to protect yourself is to report it. Plus, you'll make friends with the gods when you do report it.
Rule 15.5 - Informational - teleport If a mortal recites teleport on a mob, they are NOT responsible as to what the mob does or where it goes. Gods may relocate or kill the teleported mob. When relocating the mob, they may only put in back in its proper place, and only if the room is unoccupied by mortals at the time. Note that killing the mob may allow it to repop normally, even if the room -is- occupied by mortals at the time.
Rule 15.6 - Informational - storage characters The technical rule is that players are only allowed one storage character per main character. This is somewhat difficult to detect, however this rule is occasionally enforced. Generally, if you're a complete storage hog, the gods will request that you condense your storage and reduce the number of storage characters to a smaller number. Honestly though, if you have that much storage, there's probably something wrong with you.
