Alter Aeon Rules of Conduct
Rules Section 8 - Player Corpses and Eq
Rule 8.1 - Introduction
This section deals primarily with corpse and equipment related problems
between players. These entries are related to annoyance or griefing
behavior, but deserve a separate section due to how often they arise.
Penalties for minor offenses are not severe, and are often dismissed if
a first offense or if a mistake was made. For repeated offenses, all
possible punishments are available for use.
Rule 8.2 - Thou shalt not mess with the corpses of other players
Player corpses are sacrosanct. If you take a player corpse, you must
return it immediately on request, and are obligated to try to return
it to the owner if you can.
Rule 8.3 - Thou shalt not loot the corpses of other players
When you loot someone elses corpse, you are in effect stealing their
gold and possibly their equipment (depending on the character.) This
is illegal, and you MUST return anything taken from a corpse
IMMEDIATELY upon request. You MUST also actively attempt to return
anything accidentally taken from a corpse, including gold. It is no
defense to say "he never asked for it back".
Rule 8.4 - Thou shalt not separate equipment from its rightful owner
As a general rule of thumb, the rightful owner of a piece of equipment
remains the rightful owner until the equipment is discarded, sold, or
actively given away.
In general, equipment dropped on the ground or donated is considered
discarded, but there may be cases where this is not true. When in
doubt, don't be a jerk - ask if someone meant to throw something away.
Exceptions to this include equipment that is removed from you without
your consent, such as when you die. Additionally, weightless containers
purchased via donation are NOT to be touched and must be returned.
Here are a few other scenarios where the equipment or items may not
be taken:
Corpses
Zapped equipment
Disarmed weapons
Corpse eq (after the corpse has been eaten)
Equipment donated for the purposes of a corpse retrieval
Equipment in a player's inventory
Equipment worn by a player
Equipment placed on a pet or golem
Weightless containers purchased via donation
Characters you happen to know the password to
Note that there is also a grey area for storage characters that feel the
need to drop containers due to weight concerns. In general, you should
be polite when encountering stupidity of the level required to drop five
hundred pounds of equipment on the ground in a public place.
For those of you with storage characters, we strongly recommend that your
character be capable of sorting its inventory without resorting to
dropping stuff. If this isn't the case, you're a dumbass.
