Alter Aeon Rules of Conduct
Rules Section 9 - Player Killing
Rule 9.1 - Introduction
This section deals primarily with player killing, both sanctioned and
unsanctioned. Note that player killing includes both the obvious
'direct player kill', as well as indirect player kills such as summoning
to a dangerous area. You can still be liable for a player kill event if
you didn't personally land the final blow.
Rule 9.2 - Thou shalt not attempt to kill other players except in pk
If you wish to kill other players, there are several legal options:
1) PK arenas, available via the 'pkok' command. Arena kills have
no loss of exp, gold or anything else.
2) Temporary PK, also available via the 'pkok' command. With
temporary PK, there are no losses if you die. To stop being PK, simply
log out and log back in again.
3) Permanent PK, which is not reversible. If you go Permanent PK
(also known as PPK), you can lose experience, gold, and possibly other
things when you're the victim of a PK.
Kills outside of these three options are illegal and may be dealt with
harshly. Punishment for pkills varies based on the circumstance and
intent.
Rule 9.3 - Thou shalt not harass people who don't want to PK with you
If the player you wish to kill does not want to play pk with you, you
must leave them alone.
While this seems obvious, PK players will occasionally harass non-PK
players in an attempt to goad them into doing something dumb. Harassment
is harassment, and it is strongly recommended that if your potential
target doesn't want to play you should leave them alone.
Rule 9.4 - Incidental player kills with intent are still illegal
While the code generally protects non-pk players from PK players, it is
still possible to use other means to kill a non-pk player.
Intentionally causing the death of a non-pk player with malicious
intent is illegal. This includes mob or other 'lossy' deaths of a
temporary PK player.
Some of the more common ways of illegally killing a player are to
summon them to an aggro mob (also against the rules), summon an
aggro mob to them, or using bugs to bypass player killing restrictions.
All of these actions (and many others) are heavily logged to make sure
the gods can tell exactly what you did and thwack you for it.
Note that dispelling or casting annoyance spells on an ungrouped player
may cause them to die. If this happens, you are as responsible as if
you directly killed them illegally.
Rule 9.5 - Recall sites and waypoints are sacrosanct if flagged nocombat
A nocombat recall site or waypoint is often considered a true safe
room, where PK players may hang out indefinitely to either idle or
watch from afar.
It is illegal to use any means to move a PK player from a nocombat
recall site for the purpose of killing them. This includes teleport
scrolls, wands, or dproc items with move specps.
Note that this rule also applies to PPK players, who also need
hallowed ground from time to time.
