It appears that this gavel was actually a repurposed warhammer, as it is
made of metal instead of the traditional hardwood, and it is extremely
heavy. It serves a dual purpose now, as the powerful crushing impact it
makes against sound blocks would easily cut through any amount of courtroom
noise. It is also a very serviceable combat weapon, delivering a crushing
impact against any attacker that gets too close. The cigil of the scales, a
well-known symbol representing justice and impartiality, is engraved  on
the leather grip.
