      Artifact Lore Volume II: Soul Reaper

In ages long past, the Sword of the Nine Hells was created by a demon-god
whose name is long forgotten. The blade's early history is unknown, but at
some point it was entrusted to a denizen of the shadow plane known as
Kr'Path Tal, one of the leaders of the Order of Oblivion. When Kr'Path Tal
was imprisoned on the prime material plane, the sword fell into the hands
of a human conqueror named Sarvas. The sword was said to contain some of
the sentience of its creator, and twisted Sarvas' mind, driving him towards
one conquest after another. In one such war, Sarvas drove out dwarves from
a settlement near the southern slopes of the Ash Mountains, where he and
his army then took up residence. Eventually the stronghold was besieged by
the combined efforts of the Rubicons of Thalos and the elves of Thalenwood.
During the battle, the elven wizards managed to shatter the blade's
enchantment. Stripped of its power, the weapon was soon after buried with
the remains of the warrior Sarvas.
