     The scale at first appears to be black, but as you stare at it
you can see an odd reddish hue.  It's shiny and sleek, much like
molten rock that has dried and cooled.  It appears to be the scale of
some large creature, and your arm would fit nicely into the tendons
that stretch across its back.
