A pitch black horseshoe, and a damn big one at that.  It seems to suck in
light, making a black hole in your vision.  All about it a deep red flame
waves.  It seems to be rather heavy for its size, but with a little effort
you could probably nail it to the bottom of your boots to keep the soles from
wearing out so fast.
