Item description:

An oval shaped shield, five feet long and two wide, is made of 2 inches of
mysterious black metal.  It was once a wondrous device, but time and
countless battles have damaged it severely, but not beyond repair.  On the
shield's face a faded symbol appears, but is too far gone to make out. You
feel a very slight magical aura attached to it... You wonder if it can be
restored.
