The Quest for the Silver Halberd, part 1
by Sparity Ket, Captain of the Order of the White Knights
Justice had just journeyed from Colony Luskan through the Ash Mountains,
escorting a group of pilgrims wishing to visit the shrine of the goddess
Mercy, or Islaine as she was known in the over-world. The shrine was
located within the Order of the Nymph lodge in the city of Ritterholm.
After praying with them and seeing the pilgrims off to the local inn, the
paladin considered his current task to be completed, so he returned to the
shrine in order to pray and obtain guidance as to what he should do next.
While thus meditating, Justice received a vision of three distinct scenes.
The first shown to him was that of a keep shrouded in falling snow. It was
built of large stone blocks with only a few narrow arrow slits in the
walls, no other windows, and single entrance. The stone, which is
beginning to crumble, looked old but sturdy. The wooden door was hung
askew on its hinges and stood open, as if inviting visitors to enter the
darkness beyond. A grim, rat-faced goblin stood on either side of the
doorway.
In the second scene, Justice saw what looked to be a crypt. He was engaged
in battle with some sort of humanoid-shaped undead. Others were nearby,
but in the torchlight it was difficult to make out more details through the
din of combat.
The third scene was short but poignant. Relying on the ability to see in
total darkness bestowed upon him by his orcish ancestry, Justice saw
himself reaching toward a shining, silvery halberd lying on the floor. He
pulled it free from the grasp of what looked like an ice sculpture lying
the floor and felt a strong sense of accomplishment.
Justice pondered over the imagery and concluded that it was his task to
seek out the silver halberd. In his vision, he had seen allies fighting
alongside him, so he left the lodge in order to seek them out.
