A sleeve of metal about half a foot long, with raised edges at each end
to prevent glancing blows from sliding of and damaging other parts of
the body.  It is a very crude, hand made device, certainly not crafted
by a master. But the idea and the implementation are sound, and it just
might help save your life some time.
