During an attempt to best Grandmaster Viktor Kochikov in a game of life-sized
chess, a most peculiar and strange happening did occur. Despite being able to
place all of my moves correctly on the board and forcing a sucession from
Viktor, some adventurer had already defeated his giant King in combat,
leaving me no way to complete my quest, even though I had set out to do what
I had accomplished. An official even stepped out onto the arena to present my
trophy to the late King, but was unable to for obvious reasons, and refused
to give up my hard-earned prize directly to me. Enfuriated, I sought to slay
him, but could not seem to find a suitable name with which to target him with
my spells, a necessary part of any arcane formula. Having no other option, I
resorted to area affect spells, which harmed him however he was a
nonviolent man, and refused to fight, or allow me to do so with him with use
of a magic peaceful whistle. However, my mind had targeted him enough to
succesfully focus my blasts of flaming energy at him at will. A long and
one-sided battle raged for some time, eventually ending in his defeat, to my
surprise. After vanishing, he left behind his possesions, some gold and two
of the same very strange item. attempting to collect everything in the room
netted me only the gold, as apparently the item was too insubstantial or
simply too powerful to grasp with my human hands. None of my efforts to
obtain the items were succesful, as I was simply never meant to have them, I
suppose. Then a voice said to me, almost from my own mind: there is an
item for trade here that was never meant to be seen by mortals. Knowing
that it was not my destiny to ever possess these strange artifacts, I left
them be knowing that such a rare and unusual sight was enough of a gift for a
mortal such as I.
