------------------------------------------------------------------------
It's true that clerics on this mud right now are somewhat limited in their abilites,
especially in relation to other classes.
Yes, they have access to mana that warriors and thieves do not, and can cast a plethora
of spells, (from heal to famine) each that are priceless if used well.
However mages have an arsenal of offensive spells, and can usually cast the same
defensive spells as clerics.
How to level the playing field you may ask then,.....
well the first line of theought would be, create cleric spells that rival mage spells...
This is a good idea, and several things have been implemented to do this (turn undead
for example was a great addition to the game).
However there is supposed to be a profound difference between mages and clerics,
and i believe that there is a way to recognize this difference and solve much of
the disadvantage clerics find themselves having...
Clerics are mages that mostly deal with spells involving life force directly. Mages
call upon magical forces which they mold into particular forces, channel though their
body, and project into a spell effect.
Clerics however are though to be more of 'divine spiritualists' (if you will). Kinda
like mages, but they don't use destructive forces, and instread of using magical
forces, they draw their power from their belief in their god.
This is all well and good, but it really seems to end up giving clerics the short
end of the stick on the mud....
They just don't get the same kind of spells that mages do.
However the difference in mages and clerics should give clerics one powerful advantage
over mages.
Mages (who concentrate pre-existing magical forces into the spell of their desire)
cannot be burdened with bulky armor, as this makes it almost impossible for them
to make the necessary gestures for their spell to be completed.
Cleric on the otherhand get their powers from their belief in thier divine being,
which is why their spells are usually so limited to healing and curses.
Clerics on this mud should be able to (by this train of thought) wear armor, as they
are not so dependent on the gestures to cast spells but rather their religion (whatever
the fuck it may be)
So, after all this babbling...my point is this.
Save all the time of coming up with all these new cleric spells (or at least as many),
and save the time of testing them and re-testing them to make sure ranko ain't gonna
find some bug in them so that she can nuke every mob on the mud solo (hehe, sor
