I am writing because I look on the list of clans and see multiple clans with 100+
members in them.
I've personally joined those clans to check them out, and I can tell you right now
they are damaging
player development. The leaders of clans nowadays are clanning anything that moves,
and I think
in order to make the game become more intimate again, and maybe even stimulate the
mud economy again,
we should start charging 5000 gold or something around there to add a person into
a clan. This way,
the mud becomes a lot more intimate again because the clan has invested in this person,
and might actually
have clanned them because they like them/want to do stuff with them, not just to
have sheer numbers.
I am seeing players that have no idea about any area, commands, or much of anything
just get powereleveled
up into the high levels, and then just get screwed if they have to solo. If people
were joining clans that
actually cared about the members personally, not just as a number, but as a face,
I think they'd have a lot
more to gain from being in a clan.
I'm not saying this because I'm jealous of numbers or anything, because I already
did the "Largest clan in the mud"
with Magi years and years and years ago. I ended up removing every single member,
because I noticed this single
fact.
