Group ratings already work as proposed.  What you're seeing on the
leaderboards is the total point count for those players divided by some
factor so they look reasonable. If you continue the leaderboard out to
position 120 or so, you'll see that the rank drops to very good, and later
to just good, etc. That's because the display routine is looking at the
point totals too, not because it only uses excellents.
