Alter Aeon FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
FAQ Section 11 - [advanced] Fame
Question 11.1 - Misconceptions
The fame system keeps a record of 'fame worthy' things that your character
has done, and gives you a rough count of your fame level. The sources and
exact details of how the fame system work are not public, but there are a
few important things to remember:
- If something shows up on 'where fame', it's eligible to be fame, but
might not be worth a fame point for you. To be clear, if you kill
something on 'where fame', you're not guaranteed to get a fame point.
- Fame can change over time, and you can gain or lose fame even when idle.
This generally only happens when areas are moved, releveled, or reworked.
- If you kill something on 'where fame', it might still show up on 'where
fame'. If this happens, you'll have to try again.
- Minions don't steal fame.
- Killing something solo doesn't guarantee that you'll get fame.
Question 11.2 - How do I get fame?
You generally get fame by participating in the defeat of powerful creatures.
If you're in a large group, you have a lower chance of receiving fame than
if you are in a smaller group or by yourself.
Question 11.3 - Do minions steal fame?
No. However, there are cases where even killing something by yourself
might not give you fame, or might not register as a fame kill.
This is working as intended. If the mob still shows up on 'where fame',
wait a while and kill the mob again.
Question 11.4 - How can I see what creatures are fame?
Use the 'where fame' command. If you only have a few fame mobs remaining
in a given area, it might tell you the names. Otherwise, it will only
tell you if there is or isn't fame remaining in the area.
Question 11.5 - I killed mob X and it still shows up on 'where fame'!
This sometimes happens. This isn't a bug, and the game is not broken.
Kill the mob again later.
Question 11.6 - How long does it take for fame to kick in?
The timer can be anywhere from an hour to two weeks.
Question 11.7 - I killed mob X and I never got fame for it!
Even if you kill something and it was removed from 'where fame', you
still might not get a fame point for it.
This is not a bug. Go kill other fame mobs.
Question 11.8 - I logged in and got a bunch of fame out of nowhere, what happened?
Sometimes when we rework areas and move things around, fame shifts from
one mob to another. This can cause you to gain or lose fame even if
you've been idle.
You can use the 'fame log' command to see a list of recently updated
creatures. This will explain many (but not all) cases of extra fame.
Question 11.9 - I logged in and lost a bunch of fame, what happened?
Sometimes when we rework areas and move things around, fame shifts from
one mob to another. This can cause you to gain or lose fame even if
you've been idle.
Reworking areas is necessary in order for the builders to update,
integrate, and maintain high level areas. You can recover the missing
fame by getting fame from other places.
You can use the 'fame log' command to see a list of recently updated
creatures. This will explain many (but not all) cases of missing fame.
