Alter Aeon is a completely multiclass game. You can level any class at
any time, as long as you have sufficient experience. There are many
different playstyles for characters.

Aside the standard classes, you can use the 'check' command to look
at various playstyles. Some are strategies for building characters,
though most follow classic fantasy archetypes.
