The 'bloodcasting' skill allows a necromancer to sacrifice their own
blood to enhance their spellcasting. The caster loses a modest amount
of hit points to boost the level of the spell that is bloodcast.
Only certain necromancer spells can be bloodcast. Spells that use
blood as a component are technicaly already bloodcast and cannot
be improved by adding more blood.
Tooth spells that produce skeletal minions in particular are poor
canidates for bloodcasting - adding blood to odontological magic
physically binds the resulting object to the caster. This makes
a bloodcast animated skeleton impossible, as they would be fused
to the body of the caster. Likewise, spells that animate corpses
cannot be bloodcast, as the blood in the body is already accounted
for in the spell matrix.
Animated minions not made from corpses, however, take on unusual
properties. The unliving matter becomes more akin to the flesh of
living creatures, both for good and ill.
When the caster has certain blood-based spells active, they alter the
damage type of combat spells when bloodcasting. Spells that are about
to expire are too weak to alter the damage type.
