perform notes - the number of notes you can play in a performance
perform help - syntax for the perform command
To perform, you must have an instrument wielded, held or worn around
your neck. There may be certain large instruments, like pianos
and organs, that can be played as long as you are in the same room.
You can play while sitting or standing. Performing with instruments
consumes a small amount movement or mana, depending on whether the
instrument is magical in nature.
The number of notes you can play in a performance depends on
mostly on your intelligence and little bit on your charisma.
Some instruments, mostly drums, are rhythm only, and can play only
a single note.
Some instruments, such as bagpipes, have a drone that plays a set
note continuously throughout a performance.
Some instruments are polyphonic and can be used to play both chords
or individual notes. The chords are triads, except for keyboard
instruments, which play a fourth note one octave below the tonic.
The musical notation is as follows:
Single notes have 2 to 4 components:
Accidentals: # for sharp, & for flat (this is optional)
Pitch: A-G baseline, prefix + for high notes, - for a low notes
Duration: 1-8 beats
Note: rhythm instruments cannot have the pitch designated and will
always play the same note
Example:
#A4 - high A sharp for 4 beats
Chords have 4 to 5 components:
Mode: M - major, N - minor, U - augmented, I - diminished
Accidental: # for sharp, & for flat (this is optional)
Key: root note of the chord, same usage as single notes
Duration: 1-8 beats
Example:
M+c3 - High C major chord for 3 beats
Rests have 2 components:
R (for rest)
Duration: 1-8 beats
Example:
R2 - Rest 2 beats
You cannot start or end performances with a rest, nor can you have
two or more rests in a row. A rest will not stop a drone from playing.
Example song: "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star"
