thrall [on/off]
'Umbral thrall' is the designation given to what many thieves
consider to be pinnacle of shadow disciplines.
Activating this skill causes a thief's shadow to gain a modicum of
self-awareness and tangible substance. More sophisticated than a
shadow decoy, the umbral thrall is a compentent assistant and loyal
servant that follows its master's lead, assisting in whatever
thief-related activity its master is currently engaged in.
In most cases the thrall will simply perform the same action as its
master. If the master flicks at a target, the thrall flicks at the same
target. In other cases, the thrall possesses enough intelligence to
follow through with another action if performing the same action would
not be advantageous. For example, if the master performs a successful
feint, the thrall will follow up with a disengage attack. Anything that
a thrall steals is immediately given to the master.
An umbral thrall must be maintained by paying a continual shadow exposure
cost. It cannot be targeted by enemies and is essentially invulnerable.
Only by voluntarily terminating the umbral thrall discipline, running out
of shadow control or having the effect dispelled is the umbral thrall
released. Also, an umbral thrall gains experience through its actions,
and when it is released and resumes being a normal shadow, that experience
is transferred to the master.
