Dodge is a thief skill used to move out of the way of an incoming blow.  It
is a very powerful skill in fighting, and is dependent on your dexterity and
level. You can dodge attacks no matter what sort damage they deal, though
flexible weapons, such as whips and flails, as well as blasts, are slightly
more difficult to dodge

It is highly recommended that all players learn this skill at some point.
Even if you have a low dexterity, or a low thief level, dodge can still
serve to protect your character from a sizable percentage of attacks.
