There are several varieties of arid terrains:

sandy     - dry grasslands and savannahs, typically bordering deserts
desert    - arid, generally sandy or rocky, dominated by succulents such as cacti
dune      - shifting hills of sand, with very little plantlife

Arid terrains are defined by their lack of moisture. There is little to forage, and
only the hardiest herbs and trees can survive there. Copper ore is most abundant
in arid terrains, and certain evaporite minerals such as halite, sylvite, trona and
borax can only be found in arid places.
