Spells are learned through practices. You can teach yourself critical spells
anywhere you like, but you have to go to a teacher or guildmaster to learn
less common spells.  You 'practice' the spell to become better at it.  You only
have a limited number of practices, so you'll have to remember that you might
not be able to get every spell when you want it.

You can get more practices by getting levels.  As you get to be higher level,
you can also learn more powerful spells.

At extremely high levels, there are very few guildmasters who are willing to
teach the most powerful spells.  For some of these high level spells, the only
way to learn them is by trial and error, and research into the arts of magic.
