The mage class has good mana and poor hitpoints.  They are able to cast
powerful offensive spells and a good many utility spells at low levels.
Mages have:

- fire, ice, lightning and crystal spells that deal damage and defend
  against specific kinds of attacks

- elemental focusing skills that allow channel casting to make their
  spells more flexible
- illusion spells to confound attackers and avoid detection
- mana-based force fields for defense, levitation and various utility

A mage is a powerful weapon, but usually must be protected from harm as
they are not physically strong.  The primary stat for mages is intelligence,
with wisdom, which is usually four points lower. Both stats are necessary
to master the complex spells of their trade

Mages can brew potions, scribe scrolls and enchant weapons and armor with
elemental and force field effects.

Equipment effects that are most useful for mages are INTELLIGENCE, WISDOM,
MANA_REGEN, MANA and MAGE_CAST_LEVEL. Physical stats like CONSTITUTION,
STRENGTH and HIT_POINTS can increase the durability of fragile mages,
and CHARISMA can help keep aggressive monsters from getting the drop
on them.

Mages start with the 'shower of sparks', 'static blast' and 'chill
touch' spells.
