You open the book and read the last entry:

I am closer than ever to reviving the ancient sword.  I brought the blade
itself to the dwarves, hoping they could reforge it.  It also ne ds to have
an evil pow r boun  to it, ...(this part of the entry is unreadable)... a. 
Finally, a simple bit of ore is needed to repair the blade.
