Title: a book entitled 'Military Units of the Naginag Combine'

Military Units of the Naginag Combine

Quaternion: Half-squad, consisting of four legionnaires. A quaternion is
commanded by one of the legionnaires, by assignment of their sergeant.
Quaternions are typically utilized in garrison duties. Legionnaires on the
war front are generally assigned to stay with the whole squad.

Contubernium: The contubernium is the basic military unit of the Combine
military, consisting of eight legionnaires, with two underaged adjuncts who
serve as assistants and shieldbearers, so that there are ten soldiers.
Each contubernium is commanded by a Sergeant, who is typically the most
senior legionnaire of the squad. Each contubernium within a legion has a
unique two letter designation, such as 'BC' or 'DF'. It a common practice
for contubernia to invent a nickname based off of this designation, such as
'Battle Cattle' and 'Death Ferrets' in the aforementioned examples.

Century: Ten contubernia. A full-strength century typically has eighty
legionnaires and twenty supporters. Commanded by an officer of lieutenant
rank. Centuries are designated by number within their cohort, such as
'Fourth Century, First Cohort' or 'Sixth Century, Third Cohort'. Serving
in the first century within the first cohort of a legion is especially
prestigious, being populated entirely of sergeants and officers. It is
commonly called the 'Officers' Century'.

Cohort: Six centuries. A cohort consists of approximately 480 legionnaires
and 120 adjuncts. Each cohort is lead by an officer of Commander rank.
Cohorts within a legion are generally designated cardinally, such as 'First
Cohort', 'Second Cohort', 'Third Cohort', et cetera. The Naginag capitol
police are also organized into cohorts.

Millennium: Two cohorts, plus any attached auxiliaries populated by
irregulars. Commanded by a Captain. Captaincies are referred to by
colors, such 'Red Millennium', 'Orange Millennium', et cetera. Millennium
often number more than their name would suggest, usually between 1200 and
1500.

Legion: Six millennia. A legion is headed by a General, who has a Colonel
as his or her assistant that personally leads the legion's First Century.
Modern legions, with all of their attached auxiliaries, usually number
around 8000.
