Title: the Quest for the Silver Halberd, part 13
The Quest for the Silver Halberd, part 13
by Sparity Ket, Captain of the Order of the White Knights
The floor of this room was littered with bones. Most of them are clearly
the bones of small animals, but a few bones appear to have come from humans
or demihumans. As they looked about, a numbers of rats scurried for
shelter. At the center of the room was a large bed, broken and
uncomfortable-looking, covered in litter. The bed is covered in oily,
tattered blankets that looked unsuitable for use as even rags. A battered
desk and decrepit chair were only other things in the room. Dullblade
remarked that it had been Barrik's bedroom.
While the others searched elsewhere, Jamarkas poked his head under the bed,
only to greeted with a face full of acidic spit. Having no patience for
that, he hopped back and riddled the bed with bullets until it was nothing
but splinters. Pushing the debris aside, they found what was left of a
foot-long, dark gray beetle. They also found a strongbox, one that was
more magical and less destructible than the booksafe they had found
earlier. No amount of prying could get it apart, but with a bit of
prompting from Dullblade, they used a mending spell on the azure shards
from the other safe to recreate a key and opened it up to find several
valuable gems, coins, wands, and a bag of holding.
Adjacent to Barrik's bedroom was some kind of storage room. The room had
many crates and boxes stacked in it. Many on the bottom were broken from
the weight of those on the top, and others appear to have torn apart. Most
of the boxes were empty, but those few that still held contents held
strange ones. In one was nothing but four withered butterfly wings. In
another was set of six red marbles with a single black one. In yet another
was a can of bear claws in pickling brine. The party marveled over the
unusual items but found nothing of value.
