But as you look at her smile, you realize that it does not touch her eyes, and you also realize that her eyes are the blue of fire and that they are so intense because they burn with hate. Looking at her you feel a chill, and the air around her seems to distort with electric energy. ----------------------------------------------------------------- History --------------------------------------------------------- She comes from a place to the far west where once there was a village. That village is gone now. The only sign that once anything existed is an area of barren, scorched ground where nothing grows and no living being goes. She was found one winter morning, a babe wrapped in tattered blankets and left on the steps of a mage's home. Found with her was a black cat, the two of them sleeping together for warmth against the bitter cold. It was rumored by some that her parents were frightened of her mage powers--frightened to keep her and frightened to kill her, so they did the only thing they could think to do with her. It was also rumored that the cat was her familiar, for as she grew older the cat seemed never to grow by even so much as a single day. As years went past she grew up and took tutelage under her foster father, learning the arcane arts of magic. Also as years went by, the old mage and the priests of the church grew to be bitter enemies over a matter of philosophy. The priests of the church incited the villagers to great fear and suspicion, and so the villagers grew more and more fearful and resentful of all things they called unholy and they considered the magic practiced by the mage and his foster daughter to be the most unholy of all things. One night the priests of the church lead the villagers to the home of the mage. They came chanting prayers, bearing burning torches and burning crosses. And they set fire to the home of the mage. As his home burned down around him, the mage engaged in a spiritual battle to the death against the priests. The villagers caught the cat, and screaming in an ecstasy of righteous fervor they threw it into the fire and danced for joy at the thought that they had triumphed over magic. They also found Familiar, but as they bound her to a tree and set it ablaze, Familiar called to all the powers of darkness and destruction and gave herself to them in trade that they would strike down her enemies. The powers of darkness and destruction descended upon the land, and in a chaotic storm of all the elements they destroyed the entire village and all within it with the exception of Familiar.
