Alter Aeon Rules of Conduct
Rules Section 7 - Penalties, clarifications, and other information
Rule 7.1 - Introduction
This section contains information regarding obscure situations or
situations which do not fall into the previous categories.
Rule 7.2 - Informational - penalties
Available penalties for breaking rules are:
Banning: Your ability to use a particular channel is removed.
Silence: Your ability to talk to others is removed.
Disconnect: Your link is intentionally broken by a god.
Booting: You are forced to recall and quit.
Thwacking: Something of an unspecified yet suitably bad nature happens.
Freezing: You are not allowed to do anything at all.
Siteban: Your IP (or entire address block) will be banned.
Archiving: Your character is put in storage and not allowed to log in.
Purging: You loose all your equipment.
Deletion: Your character, and all its stuff, disappears. Forever.
These are somewhat in order of increasing harshness. The more
harsh punishments are almost never used.
Rule 7.3 - Informational - bug/exploit reporting
Bugs happen. Exploits happen. The administration recognize and understand
that simple fact. There is much tolerance and even respect for players who
find problems and exploits, assuming one simple condition is met:
Bugs and exploits must be reported in a timely manner.
In general, the more serious an exploit is, the more quickly it should be
reported. A minor exploit that is reported a week after discovery might
garner a pat on the back and favor in the eyes of the gods. A critical
exploit that is not reported for a day may result in freezing or thwacking
of the non-reporting player.
Below are some examples of exploits and their severity:
Minor - find a way to make a container with negative weight
Serious - brew a potion that has infinite castings of cure light
Major - brew a potion that has infinite castings of sanc and heal
Critical - find a way to pick up Hephestus and drop him anywhere you want
Critical - you discover an easy way to make copies of any item you can carry
Remember, the only way to protect yourself is to report it. Plus, you'll
make friends with the gods when you do report it.
Rule 7.4 - Informational - dropped equipment
Traditionally, equipment dropped on the ground is fair game for all.
Dropped equipment is equipment that you specifically drop, using the
'drop' command. This does not include equipment that is removed from
you without your consent, such as when you die. Zombies used to retrieve
corpses are NOT to be messed with if they are in the possession of eq.
Further, weightless containers purchased via donation are NOT to
be touched.
Other cases of this sort:
Corpses
Zapped equipment
Disarmed weapons
Corpse eq (after the corpse has been eaten)
Equipment donated for the purposes of a corpse retrieval
Equipment in a player's inventory
Equipment on a player's pet or golem
Note that there is a grey area for storage characters that feel the need
to drop containers due to weight concerns. In general, you should be
polite when encountering stupidity of the level required to drop five
hundred pounds of equipment on the ground in a public place.
For those of you with storage characters, we strongly recommend that your
character be capable of sorting its inventory without resorting to
dropping stuff. If this isn't the case, you're a dumbass.
Rule 7.5 - Informational - teleport
If a mortal recites teleport on a mob, they are NOT responsible as to what
the mob does or where it goes. Gods may relocate or kill the teleported
mob. When relocating the mob, they may only put in back in its proper
place, and only if the room is unoccupied by mortals at the time.
Note that killing the mob may allow it to repop normally, even if the room
-is- occupied by mortals at the time.
Rule 7.6 - Informational - duping and storage characters
If you intentionally attempt to duplicate a large amount of equipment, the
gods reserve the right to forfeit the duplicates AND the originals.
Rule 7.7 - Informational - storage characters
The technical rule is that players are only allowed one storage character per
main character. This is somewhat difficult to detect, however this rule is
occasionally enforced.
Generally, if you're a complete storage hog, the gods will request that you
condense your storage and reduce the number of storage characters to a
smaller number.
Honestly though, if you have that much storage, there's probably something
wrong with you.
