More like a tall candle-stick than a staff, the sunthrower can stand on its
own three legs, arranged as a tripod.  The three legs join to form one thick,
twisting iron bar of black.  At the top of the 4-foot pole a clear disc is
mounted in an iron ring.  The ring holds the disc firmly in place, and 
radiating outward are sharp, curving rays of iron.  The disc contains the
image of the sun with many rays which each catch the surrounding light
in their refractive grooves.  As you turn the rod slightly, light shimmers
from the centre of the sun out through all the rays, and the iron spikes
which continue outward from the disk suddenly glow red.
