Item description:

The cross piece is a bent steel rod, and the shaft and shank are made of
strong metal-plated wood.  A crank is attached to a gear which holds a rod
in front of the bowstring.  When the crossbow is fired, the crankshaft can
be wound back to bring the bowstring back to the trigger mechanism.  Then,
one can push down the rod, and the string would catch on the trigger's
headpiece.
