Roxie screamed as blood splattered upon the rocks of the mountain. The
werewolf sunk his fangs into the chest of the hissing vampire. The
vampire's nails suddenly extended slashing at the werewolf's throat.
The werewolf growled from the attack, and he deftly adjusted his body. He
moved just a fraction to allow his hind legs to root himself in place to
maintain his vicious attack. His fangs continued to dig deeper into the
vampire's alabaster skin, again and again without mercy.
The vampire's face became fiercer and his resolve to kill his rival greater
with each passing second. A wild glee filled his face as more blood poured
from the werewolf's throat with each heartbeat. A heartbeat that the
vampire noted was becoming weaker from all its exertion.
Roxie's eyes filled with tears as the words began to tumble from her mouth,
"Stop! I beg you! You'll kill each other and you'll cleave my heart in two
in the process. If either of you love me at all, you will stop this madness
right now!"
Conall bowed his head, turning from Kristoff's chest. The beast slowly
shifting forms with midnight fur giving way to tanned flesh. In a manner of
seconds, the beast was now man once more who reaching out to gather Roxie
in an embrace.
"Oh, Roxie. I cannot bear to see you cry. Do not cry for this lone wolf. I
know now that I cannot, nay will not make you choose between us. If you
must choose Count Crimson, I understand. You will always be the guiding
light in my life. Like the full moon shining upon Coyote Canyon."
A rueful laugh echoed in the night and Roxie looked up from Conall's chest
to see Kristoff walking toward them dusting off the lace cuffs of his ivory
shirt while wiping at the blood on his chest with an embroidered
handkerchief.
"Oh, Roxie. My primrose of the evening. You need not comfort the runt. You
are meant to be royalty, not a mother to a litter of whelps. You are safe
with me. Conall's people are scattered and divided. My people are stronger
than ever, my love. Come with me now and fulfill your promise to be my
countess."
Roxie stepped back with sorrow shadowing every inch of her face looking
between the two men. Both holding a different part of her heart. Conall
with his tender but wild manner which called to her faerie heritage and
Kristoff with his gentil manner tempered with a passionate ardor that spoke
to all that was mortal within her.
Finally, Roxie spoke once more, and her words changed everything. "I am
with child. And his father stands before me offering me his love. But his
name, I know not."
