Flipping through this small nondescript book, you find some handwritten
notes about werewolves:

All of the native people appear to have the ability to transform. Based on
my observations, they do so every night, every one of them except for those
ill or pregnant. This means the transformation's cause is voluntary or at
least resistible. Those who morph do so as soon as the last of the sun's
light fades from the western sky, and revert to their human form as soon as
morning twilight commences. In other words they take their wolf shape from
9 P.M. to 6 A.M.

The shape-change to wolf form appears to have an effect on the mental state
of the individual. They become far more primal and aggressive as a wolf,
attacking anyone that shows signs of weakness or fatigue. Even other beings
who befriend them tread carefully to avoid becoming the target of a hunting
werewolf pack whose inhibitions are drastically reduced.
