I remember when I first saw PKOK. It was a phrase people put in their titles to signify we thought playerkilling was ok...go figure. I personally got thrown in jail (yes, there is a mud jail) for pking Werd for stealing a book, well I thought he stole a book.
All we had back then for LEGAL pk's was the arena, and we were happy with that. Darrie, Bibilll, Voltrax, Werd and I would have it out in there almost every day, and it was quite frequented by the high levels. (Draco was fond of summoning us far from the exit and having his way with us.)
I'm guessing somewhere around a year later the pkok command was put in. Allowing for people to pk who were scared of losing experience, weapons or eq (corpses didn't have eq in them, but you could steal/disarm).
Pkok was a safe alternative to the arena, where everything went. But just as it was safer, it should be more strict in it's rules of conduct. Far back in the day, anything went, but we still had unwritten rules.
The current PK scene is pathetic. People all light up the notify channel with their "daring" pkok's, then stay in their clan recalls, refusing to come out and fight. We never cried when we died. We laughed, complimented each- other and had a good time. Now people kill eachother just so people will see their "accomplishment" on notify. They also go around dispelling people in the temple, then recalling.
You rarely saw an arena fighter dispel someone outside the arena. You know what else? If I disarmed someone and took their weapon I gave it back, or if someone stole gold or eq from someone, they gave it back in good sport.
Today's pkers are so concerned with being the "baddest-assest" that they take no mercy. Call me a whiner, call me whatever. You should be ashamed of yourselves. PKing is a sport, and should be treated as such. It's been a long time since I've heard "nice one" from someone on the other end of a ball lightning.
You wanna PK?
