Thanksgiving Turkey Hunt - Nov 29, 2008
We scheduled this event after thanksgiving
in the hope that more people would attend and not have family conflicts. This
appears to have been a successful strategy, because we had a good turnout! The
event was scheduled to run from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, but due to time overrun in the
pie throwing and turkey carving contests, the end time was pushed out to 8:00 pm.
There were several parts to this event, some of them running simultaneously.
The turkey hunt itself occurred in the background to give players something to
do while waiting for their turn at the contests. For the turkey hunt, everyone
who bagged a turkey got a custom deed indicating that they participated.
For the pie throwing contest, contestants were given a bag of pies to throw at
an animated dummy. The player who hit the dummy the hardest with the pies was
declared the winner and got a custom deed marking them as a master pie thrower.
The player who missed the most was awarded the 'broad side of a barn' deed.
For the turkey carving contest, both skill and endurance were judged. The most
skillful player carved the largest pieces of meat with the least waste; the player
with the most endurance managed to get the most meat off the turkey in their
alotted time. Consolation deeds were also given for the least expert carvers,
who were apparently surprised that battle axes do not good turkey carvers make.
