Part 1 - Undead Dwarves near Moria
The undead dwarves were built by the gods Shadowfax and Void. The area is fairly old serves as one of the entrances to the plane of darkness. It is also linked to the cave system near Moria, and it is possible to travel to several other areas underground from it.Dentin: a long time ago, I had this brilliant idea for dwarves
Dentin: I set aside and built the market place, but I wanted it to be huge so I linked up another like three racks behind it in tunnels
Dentin: true to form, it never got filled out or built
Dentin: eventually, I ended up connecting the underground of several areas together
Dentin: we're about to enter the cave system that leads to undead dwarves, but it also leads to the pit fiend, and the labyrinth, and dwarves
Dentin: the cave system goes completely under the ash mountains all the way to the undead city
Dentin: I dont know undead dwarves very well, so it's mostly going to be a slaughter festival. If there's time, we'll go wander part of the labyrinth
Dentin: ok, we've just completely bypassed the intro to the area because I mistyped a number
Dentin: this rift goes elsewhere. We dont want to go there right now
Dentin: and here's a little secret room
Dentin: attack wall if you want
Dentin: we're going to go back so you can see the entrance
Dentin: there's a ton of undead down here, I gotta believe turn is hella useful
Dentin: heh, there's enough clerics in the group, if all of you did 'turn on', I imagine nothing here could attack
Dentin: everyone in the group, if you have turn undead, do 'turn on'
Dentin: awesome
Dentin: that's hilarious
Dentin: nothing can even stay in the same room with us
Dentin: the black wind is a board by the way
Dentin: post your thoughts some time as an explorer, heh
Dentin: are you undead turners keeping up with the mana drain ok?
Dentin: awesome, we gotta try this on baneguards
Dentin: this area is smaller than you think, but yeah, there's a lot of stuff in here
Dentin: I'm pretty sure that's the bulk of the area unless you get involved in the portal stuff, and we're just not going to go there right now
Dentin: the dwarves who explored this found the undead place a long time ago and decided to just portcullis it off
Dentin: better than letting the ghosts wander down below
Part 2 - Travelling to the Labyrinth
The linkage area between undead dwarves and the labyrinth is largely empty tunnels, but even so there are a few interesting spots worthy of note:Dentin: we're now descending the side of a chasm to the bottom
Dentin: next room over is the greater pit fiend
Dentin: it might be asleep, I dont know
Dentin: this is a very funny mob
Dentin: it used to load sleeping, but with fast directional wander specps on it
Dentin: so when somebody wanted to be a dick, they'd come down here, backstab it to get it good and pissed off, then follow it around and make sure all the doors were opened for it
Dentin: it would eventually wander out into the dwarven market place and kill everything
Dentin: one time I found it on the southern road killing newbies
Dentin: eventually I had to put up wards to keep it anchored down here
Uicli: That sounds very familiar
Roan: I probably just summoned it
Dentin: no, its not summonable
Sandman: it was at tranq one time too
Dentin: lets go say hi
Dentin: apparently it was awake
Dentin: one of the things that makes the fiend so nasty is it has a whip damage type
Dentin: it cuts right through parry, and a lot of the time people can't figure out why it does so much damage so quick
Note - to reach this, go up from the pit fiend, then head eastward.
Dentin: if you look at the descriptions here, you'll see that this was the tomb of an ancient magma dweller
Dentin: lots of screwball creatures were created when the world was forming
Dentin: the descs here are pretty cool
Note - we are approaching the labyrinth from the west, still underground, past the magma dweller chamber.
Dentin: we're now near the edge of the labyrinth
Dentin: you know how you go out of undead to the west, then climb down the side of the ravine where the creeper lives?
Dentin: we're currently on the other side of that ravine
Dentin: crossing this bridge puts us on the other side. We're below the other stuff though, so where this breaks into the labyrinth is on the second level
Dentin: south of here is the second level of the laby
Lizz: oh yeah the exit is a bit small
Part 3 - The Labyrinth
The labyrinth was built by the old gods Dancer and Aleph very early in the history of the game. It was constructed largely using scripts and macros, which makes perfect sense for the area.Dentin: some background on the labyrinth
Dentin: the whole thing is only two layers deep
Dentin: each layer is a 15 by 15 grid, with the center 5x5 chunk punched out
Dentin: that means each layer is exactly 200 rooms, or two racks, so four hundred rooms for the outer sections
Dentin: when you enter staircases, you move between levels. Sometimes you go up, sometimes you go down
Dentin: there are five sections, and you have to enter and leave each section to get to the center
Dentin: the center is another block of 100 rooms, arranged I think in a few layers of 5x5 rooms
Dentin: that's where dracolich is
Dentin: heh, that wizard is a trainer
Dentin: we're in section three, I think
Rhorae: nod that's where the wizard is
Rhorae: and this is section 4, I see a paladin
Uicli: Section 4. That's a paladin
Dentin: we're currently in the fourth section, and I know that this one links back to places we dont want to be
Dentin: we have to wait a little bit for the stairs to pop, it shouldn't be very long
Dentin: if you fall in that pit back there, it dumps you back in section 1
Dentin: that used to happen to me all the time
Dentin: I wasn't real smart
Dentin: the brain cell was one of the only mobs I made
Roan: I've killed plenty of them
Dentin: it has a neat description
Dentin: take a look at it some time if you can
Dentin: ok everyone, we're in the central area now
Dentin: I'd like everyone with turn undead to 'turn on' now
Dentin: and I mean everyone
Dentin: here goes nothing
Note - fly dropped on one of the group members, who plummeted to and was killed on the chamber floor.
Dentin: I think that was a death
Dentin: this is a very dangerous place
Dentin: going into dracolich
Note - complete and utter carnage here as half the tour group was ripped to shreds by the Dracolich. I had to invoke building commands to save the rest.
Dentin: wow, wtf
Dentin: ok, we're not doing that again
Dentin: we're going to go down to the bottom and stay there
Dentin: I have to say, totally didn't expect that kind of death
Arcane: dracolich has a pretty nasty spec, d
Eldrin: yeah even with saves that mob really really hurts, I totally expected some deaths. that was an all out slaughter though
Bunghole: remind me never to go to that area, no matter how badly I want/need exp
Dentin: so funny story
Dentin: back in the olden days, in rack 1700, dancer built a bunch of skeletal rats
Dentin: they were like the rats you see here
Dentin: there were some other things in the area, and he and I grouped together to show it off to me. I got a couple pieces of eq
Dentin: one of the things I got was a bone shield, nothing real great for a shield, but ok
Dentin: so I come back the next day, and the whole area is gone
Dentin: dancer had ripped it up and replaced it with stone giants, which are still there today
Dentin: but he converted my bone shield object into titanium equipment, reusing the vnums
Dentin: so my shield turned into a pair of level 25, 0 weight, titanium leggings with 1 hit and 1 dam and 2 charisma and 15 ac apply
Dentin: I think I still have a pair somewhere, but the autodenter has made them less awesome now
Dentin: for those of you who manage to survive in here, there's a bunch of treasure chests on the floor of the cavern
Dentin: you can only open these chests once you kill the dracolich apparently, which we aren't going to try again
