Alter Aeon is a text-based MMO, or a graphical MUD (Multi-User Dungeon). As a text based game, Alter Aeon differs from most other online games in one very significant way: most actions are done using typed commands instead of using the mouse.

It is an on-line game where people from all over the world can play together and interact in a huge virtual world. In a lot of ways, this is similar to other online games such as Ultima Online and World of Warcraft.

Lack of graphics is in some ways an advantage. Rather than focus on creating skins for every object, monster, and place in the game, MUDs focus on creating an outstanding game. Alter Aeon has a huge world, countless quests and other things to do, for all types of players at all skill levels. Some people have been playing Alter Aeon for over ten years!

When you start in the world of Alter Aeon, you must create a new character for you to guide through the world on your adventures. Your character need not be anything like you, and it is even common for females in real life to play male characters or the other way around. There are several ways you can build up a story around your character, such as its history, personality, appearance and skills, but you need not do this to play the game.

As you learn more and explore parts of the world, you may find trainers which can help you improve your character in many ways - from becoming stronger, to learning spellcasting arts or worshipping one of the many deities in the game. Over time, your character will be capable of exploring farther and into more dangerous places, and by grouping with others you may even glance at the things you'll be able to do in the future.
